Services Offered
Bikes on the Drive is a full-service repair shop. We offer services ranging from flat tire repairs and brake or gear adjustments to complete overhauls, custom wheel builds and everything in between. We have a well-stocked inventory of replacement parts for all types of bicycles. Here are some of the common services we offer:
Tune up
Not all tune ups are the same. Before buying a tune-up service, you should know what you’re getting. Here is what we do:
- Wipe down your frame, fork and wheels, looking for cracks, dents and other damage
- Clean your drivetrain, checking for wear and other damage
- True wheels, ensuring that spokes are adequately tensioned
- Adjust all bearing systems: hubs, headset, and bottom bracket (if applicable)
- Adjust shifting and braking systems
- Check security of crank bolts, pedals, chainring bolts, stem bolts, brake and shift levers, rack and fender bolts, and saddle clamp
- Remove seatpost and grease it to ensure it does not seize in the frame
- Inflate tires to correct pressure
- Provide a checklist showing the condition of all parts of the bicycle
Flat tire repair
- Remove tire and tube and diagnose the cause of the flat tire
- Ensure that the cause has been eliminated. Often pieces of glass or wire are stuck in the tire, and we make sure to remove them in order to prevent repeated flats
- Inspect the whole tire to ensure that it is in good condition
- Replace the inner tube and reinstall tire. In some cases, we can patch the tube on request
Cable replacement
- Brake or shift cables are replaced using good quality stainless cables and low-friction housing
- Cables are always pre-stretched when installed, eliminating the need for readjustment after the break-in period
- All cable replacements include adjustment of that system. For example, a brake cable install includes re-positioning the brake pads if necessary, and a shift cable adjustment includes checking and adjusting the limit screws on the derailleur, in addition to setting the cable tension
Brake pad replacement
- We have a range of brake pads in stock, including a wide selection of disc brake pads to cover almost every model of brake
- Brake pad replacement includes complete inspection and adjustment of the braking system, checking the conditon of the cable/housing and checking for rim/rotor wear and damage
Bearing system overhaul
- Disassemble the bearing system (hub, headset or bottom bracket), clean out the grease and check all bearing surfaces for wear
- Replace cones, axle, locknuts as necessary
- Always use new bearings when re-assembling. We also use Phil Wood waterproof grease for all bearing system overhauls
- Check security of all locknuts, fixed cups etc. before making final adjustment
Custom wheel builds
- We take great pride in the wheels we build. Whether you’re re-building on a sweet old hub or starting from scratch, we’ll make sure you get the best build possible.
- A good wheel is not determined by the quality of the parts alone. Proper assembly is critical to ensuring a long-lasting wheel. Our finished wheels are built to exacting standards: They are radially and laterally true to within 0.3mm. They are dished (this one should go without saying). They are tensioned to an average of 100-120 kgf (Kilograms of force). And most importantly, they are tension-balanced to within 10% of the average tension. This is what makes a handbuilt wheel so good! Fulfilling all of these standards will make for a wheel that stays true, keeps its tension, and lasts the longest.
WagJag promotion: Tune up and complete cable replacement
- This is a limited time, limited quantity offer through WagJag.com
- It includes a tune up as described above, plus a replacement of all standard brake and shift cables
- It does not include any additional parts or labour associated with the service, nor does it include replacement of hydraulic brake hose or other non-standard cables (such as tandem-length cables)
- The condition of the bike and its parts may limit our ability to make proper adjustments.  Additional parts and service may be required in order to complete the promoted service
- Your bike will be assessed before commencing the service and an estimate of additional services (if any) will be provided for your approval
More services
- The above list is just a short list of the common services we offer. There are many more services available
- Please stop by the shop if have questions about these or other services
- Please note: you can call us, too, but we do not give estimates over the phone. A description of the problem is not enough information for us to give an accurate diagnosis. We need to have a look before we can give you a price. Rest assured, our prices are fair, and estimates are always free.
